feature film: AS WRITTEN IN STONE
Based on a true story, As Written In Stone is a coming of age film about Moishe, a brilliant young scholar on the verge of following in his father's footsteps as the Rebbe (rabbinical leader) of his ultra-orthodox Hasidic sect in Brooklyn, NY. An unexpected interaction with the secular world makes him question his community’s strict traditions and results in a clash over issues of modernity versus antiquity. Moishe believes that he’s meant to reinterpret the community’s relationship with God, but his new ideas are seen as radical and threatening to the fundamental traditions they’ve held for centuries. In the end, Moishe is forced to choose between recanting his new beliefs in order to become the next Rebbe and marry the woman he loves, or risk being expelled from the only world he has ever known.
