DYING OF CURIOSITY
multi-channel video installation
2018
A multi-channel video installation at the Hudson River Museum commissioned as part of their Neo-Victorians exhibit. It features artist Jennifer Angus talking about and installing her "Dying of Curiosity," a site-specific piece featuring 1,800 insects arranged in elaborate, geometric patterns inspired by Victorian wallpaper designs.
The different screens juxtapose time lapses, slow motion, ultra wide shots and extreme close-ups to tell a story of contrasts; The large scale of the installation versus the small size of the insects, the long duration of the installation versus the small moments of choosing and positioning each bug, the attraction to the repeating pattern versus the repulsion to the material used to create it.
